Influence for Poster Design

The influence for my poster came from a few different sources. The main inspiration, however, was the first Saw movie poster, which I analysed a few months ago. I really liked the effective simplicity of it and the gruesomeness which it embodied. As it is a horror poster, it should have something edgy and controversial on it. This poster had a severed foot on it. It suggests that this could happen in the film but does not give anything away. It also has a saw blade running across the top which makes an allusion to the name of the film itself. The cast doesn't run along the top of the poster, it is only in the billing block. This is what I've done in my poster.

Another influence of the psychological thriller film "The Eye." Again, this sticks with a simplistic style. However, it is not as gritty and grotesque as the Saw poster. It uses the same off-white background which seems slightly unnerving considering it is not pure white. This is because things seem uneasy and wrong so it doesn't put you in a state of relaxation like pure white does.
